Our robots are remote-controlled by a specially-designed ground station built for intuitive operation. We've worked to automate typical manoeuvres like clearing dampers and other line hardware, as well as climbing from tower (via insulated rod) to line. Our most recent work involves using the latest machine-vision technology to enable our robots to sense line hardware remotely and adapt climbing operations accordingly.

Challenging physics


Besides wind, rain, and the harsh African sun, our robots are designed to withstand the extreme electromagnetic environment around transmission-level power lines. Robust shielding and specific circuit design techniques ensure reliable operation under even the most challenging conditions.
